MSI have dipped their toe into the already saturated gaming peripherals market. How does the MSI Interceptor DS300 gaming mouse stack up against the mature products of their competitors?
When I think gaming peripherals, MSI is not a name that immediately comes to mind. It’s true that I associate the MSI brand with high quality and fully featured motherboards, graphics cards, laptops and more recently All-In-One PCs but this really is new ground. Given this absence of a specific peripheral track record, a debut product is often met with a certain amount of scepticism and this was certainly the case here – for the first 5 minutes anyway.
The MS Interceptor DS300 has a pretty conservative design in that it’s a pretty standard shape with 6 buttons, a textured scroll wheel, 3 adjustable weights, an RGB logo and a quality braided cable. Speaking of quality, MSI has also used the highly regarded OMRON switches and the ADNS-9800 laser sensor. The switches are rated at 5 million clicks and the laser at 8200DPI. It was pretty clear that MSI meant business with this one.
The feature list is extensive and the DS300 has all the technical pre-requisites of an eSports gaming mouse, even the bling of configurable RGB lighting and the control of intuitive and robust software.
